Chekhov 120. The European Reception of Chekhov – Volume Presentation

Between July 15 and 17, 2024, in commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the death of A.P. Chekhov, the Institute of Slavic Studies of the University of Debrecen organized an international conference with the participation of more than 30 researchers of Bulgarian, Czech, Hungarian, Italian, Russian and Ukrainian nationality. The conference materials were compiled into a volume, which was published in mid-May this year by the University Publishing House under the title ЧЕХОВ 120. РЕЦЕПЦИЯ ЧЕХОВА В ЕВРОПЕ – CHEKHOV 120. THE EUROPEAN RECEPTION OF CHEKHOV. The collection of studies is the fourth part of the Chekhov series, which was launched in 2011, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Chekhov’s death, and which has so far been in Hungarian, the previous pieces of which are: Approaches – Mediations. A. P. Chekhov, Chekhov Rewritings, Dialogue of Cultures and Media. Anton Pavlovich Chekhov.

The studies in Russian and English included in the newly published publication deal with the specifics of the European reception of Chekhov. The works pay special attention to the topics of film and musical interpretations, as well as other phenomena of creative reception, translation problems, and changes in critical response.

The volume was presented on July 9, 2026, within the framework of an international conference held in Niš, Serbia, at which the editors of the collection of studies (editor-in-chief Ildikó Regéczi, Marianna Gula, Angelika Molnár, Natalija Njagolova) and two of the authors affiliated with the Institute of Slavic Studies – Zoltán Hajnády, Zsuzsanna Kalafatics, Zsófia Makádi, Angelika Molnár, †Lajos Pálfalvi, Ildikó Regéczi – represented our institution.
