The 9th International Congress of Literary Translators took place in Moscow from 3 to 5 September 2026. The event was organized by the Institute for Literary Translation with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.
For more than fifteen years, the congress has been one of the most significant international forums for literary translators. This year, the event brought together more than 180 literary translators, philologists, academics, and publishers from 42 countries.
The closing ceremony of the congress featured the presentation of the “Read Russia” (Читай Россию!) Award, which recognizes outstanding achievements in the translation of Russian literature into foreign languages. The award highlights the important role translators play in bringing Russian literary works to international audiences and promoting the global discovery of new literary voices.
In the category Contemporary Russian Literature, the award was presented to József Goretity.
(The award in the Russian Classical Literature category was granted to Bai Sihung of China, while the winner in the Poetry category was Zoran Kostić of Serbia.)
We warmly congratulate József Goretity on receiving this prestigious international distinction and wish him continued success in his scholarly and literary work.
